Living shorelines, made of rock, oyster shell, sand, plants and other natural materials, help slow erosion, provide habitat and filter water. CBA builds living shorelines all around Choctawhatchee Bay to improve and repair our coast. Find out how you can help at the link in the bio.

It's blue lupine time! Explore our wondrous water It's blue lupine time!

Explore our wondrous watershed and see sights like this blue lupine blooming along the outfall of one of our rare coastal dune lakes. Our Gulf Coast lupine is considered a threatened species since its ideal habitat continues to disappear. You can spot this example at the public beach access in Grayton Beach. Check it out, then enjoy some time romping in the shallow waters of the Western Lake outfall.
To learn more about coastal dune lakes and how CBA and partners take care of them, go to our website at the link in the bio.

Monofilament recycling is part of CBA's new "All In" pollution prevention initiative. To celebrate the launch of All In, CBA will deploy 3 new monofilament recycling bins at local beach accesses.

We send a huge "thank you" to local artists, @maxineorange, @skye_dive_, and @sammieeunice for painting the bins with colorful images that make recycling fishing line fun!

We are so fortunate to know generous people who give of their time and talent to help keep our waterways swimmable and fishable, now and into the future.

Stay tuned for more info about All In and how you can help take care of local waterways.

At CBA, we are dedicated to sparking wonder in you At CBA, we are dedicated to sparking wonder in young hearts and minds. We think that's the best way to foster young water stewards who will care for our waterways. We live by these words:
"In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught." (Baba Dioum, 1968.)
To that end, CBA's Education Team and our AmeriCorps @nwf_environmental_stewards members are out there everyday giving our kids hands-on environmental education experiences. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Here's a sight we love to see! This horseshoe crab Here's a sight we love to see!
This horseshoe crab molt was left behind when the animal shed its exoskeleton. Horseshoe crabs are β€œliving fossils” meaning they have existed nearly unchanged for at least 445 million years, which makes them older than dinosaurs!

Why do we care? Many fish species as well as birds feed on horseshoe crab eggs in Florida. Adult horseshoes serve as prey for sea turtles, alligators, horse conchs, and sharks.

Horseshoe crabs are just one type of wildlife that benefits from swimmable, fishable waterways. Help CBA take care of Choctawhatchee Bay by joining or volunteering at the link in the bio.

Did you know April is National Native Plant Month? Did you know April is National Native Plant Month? Did you also know NWFSC South Walton Center has a native plant demonstration garden and trail? Native plants are crucial to our ecosystems and wildlife! Native plants save you $$ on landscape maintenance since they adapted to thrive in the local environment. They also provide resources for many wildlife! For instance, the gopher apple is food for the gopher tortoise, the purple passionflower is the host for the Gulf Fritillary butterfly, and red-cockaded woodpeckers rely on the longleaf pine stands. Florida is the most biodiverse state in the U.S.; let's celebrate by adding native plants to our yards!
